Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • 4-inch Round Cake Pan
  • Toothpick or Cake Tester

Ingredients

  • 65 g all-purpose flour
  • 50 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • pinch salt
  • 60 ml milk
  • 30 g unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 4-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix the milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and egg. Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for about 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Notes

For an extra-moist cake, brush the warm cake with a simple syrup made from equal parts sugar and water. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or refrigerate if frosted. You can also freeze the cake for up to a month; just remember to thaw it overnight in the fridge before serving. For variations, try adding lemon zest or cocoa powder for flavor twists. Keep it simple for a charming presentation by dusting with powdered sugar or adding fresh berries.
