Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 3 cups buttercream frosting store-bought or homemade

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease three round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs lightly, then add the milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until combined.
  • Slowly pour in the boiling water while stirring to achieve a thinner batter.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely.
  • Spread a generous layer of frosting between each cake layer, stacking them carefully. Finish with a final coat of frosting on top and sides.
