Ingredients

  • 300 g flour
  • 60 g sugar
  • 7 g dry yeast
  • 120 ml warm milk
  • 2 pieces eggs
  • 100 g butter, softened
  • 200 g pitted cherries
  • 100 g cream cheese
  • 50 g slivered almonds
  • 1 pieces egg yolk for brushing

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and dry yeast.
  • Add the warm milk and eggs, and start kneading until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Gradually add the softened butter, one tablespoon at a time, continuing to knead.
  • Cover the bowl and let the dough rise for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
  • While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing the cream cheese and pitted cherries in a small bowl.
  • Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  • Spread the cream cheese and cherry mixture evenly over the dough.
  • Roll it up tightly, cut it in half lengthwise, and twist the two halves together to form a loaf.
  • Place the shaped babka in a greased loaf pan and brush the top with the egg yolk.
  • Sprinkle with slivered almonds and let it rest for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden and fragrant.
