Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or electric mixer
  • Spatula
  • Cake pan
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 fresh apples thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar for topping
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for topping
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease your cake pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, melted butter, eggs, and milk, then combine with the dry ingredients to form a smooth batter.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and arrange the apple slices on top.
  • In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter; sprinkle over the apples.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool before slicing.

Notes

Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for more depth of flavor. Peel apples thinly to keep some texture. Greasing the pan is crucial for an easy release. Store the cake in an airtight container for up to 2 days or refrigerate to keep fresh for an additional 3 days. For longer storage, wrap slices in plastic and freeze for up to 3 months.
