Equipment

  • Pie dish
  • Rolling pin
  • Pastry cutter or fork
  • Mixing bowls
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6-8 tablespoons water

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). A hot oven ensures the crust gets crisp and golden. Place a baking sheet under the pie dish to catch drips.
  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Let them sit while you make the crust.
  • Combine flour, salt, and cold butter in another bowl. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until crumbly. Gradually add water until the dough holds together.
  • Roll out half the dough and line your pie dish. Spread the apple mixture evenly, dotting with butter.
  • Cover with the second rolled-out dough, seal edges, and cut slits on top for steam release.
  • Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then lower to 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes until golden.
