Ingredients

  • 125 g wheat flour
  • 200 g sugar
  • 50 g cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 125 ml milk
  • 30 g melted butter
  • 5 ml vanilla extract
  • 50 g chopped nuts (optional)
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 25 g cocoa powder
  • 250 ml hot water

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  • Pour the dough into the prepared pan, spreading evenly, and optional chopped nuts on top.
  • Mix the brown sugar and cocoa powder in another bowl and sprinkle over the dough.
  • Gently pour the hot water over the top without stirring.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes until the top is firm and the sauce is bubbling.
  • Let it rest for a few minutes before serving with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For a richer flavor, try using dark cocoa powder. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat in the microwave.
