Equipment

  • 8-inch round cake pan
  • Mixer hand or stand
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs or flax eggs for eggless
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup Ferrero Rocher chocolates chopped
  • 1/2 cup hazelnut spread like Nutella
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 10 whole Ferrero Rocher chocolates for decoration

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan lined with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Using a mixer, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, and gently fold in the chopped Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top, then bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting. Whisk the heavy cream until stiff peaks form and fold in the hazelnut spread.
  • Spread the frosting over the cooled cake and top with whole Ferrero Rocher chocolates. Chill for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Don’t overmix the batter; a few lumps are fine. Use high-quality cocoa powder for a richer flavor. Toasting hazelnuts before adding them to the batter enhances the nuttiness. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to five days. For freezing, wrap slices and freeze for up to three months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before serving.
