- 6 slices white bread crusts removed
- 3 slices ham
- 6 slices cheese such as Emmental, cheddar, or Gouda
- 1 egg beaten
- 2 tbsp butter
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
Lay each slice of white bread on a clean surface and use a rolling pin to flatten it.
Cut each slice of ham in half and place one half on each flattened slice of bread, followed by a slice of cheese.
Gently roll up each slice of bread from one end to the other, pressing slightly to seal.
Dip each roll in the beaten egg, making sure it’s fully coated, then place in a hot, buttered skillet and cook over medium heat until golden brown on all sides.
Season the roll-ups with a pinch of salt and pepper before serving.
For an extra special touch, add a small amount of Dijon mustard to the ham before rolling for a tangy flavor.
You can easily substitute the bread with whole wheat or rye for a healthier variant, and explore different cheese options like mozzarella or pepper jack.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; reheating them in the oven or toaster will help restore their crispiness. For extended storage, uncooked roll-ups can be frozen for up to 2 months.
