Large mixing bowl
Rolling pin
Cookie cutter or glass
Baking sheet
Deep pan or fryer
Paper towels
Pastry bag or syringe
- 300 g wheat flour
- 80 g white sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 15 g active dry yeast
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 250 ml warm water
- q.s. strawberry jam to fill
- q.s. white sugar to sprinkle
- q.s. frying oil
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, white sugar, salt, and active dry yeast; mix well.
Add the two eggs and melted butter to the dry mix, then incorporate the warm water little by little.
Knead the dough on a floured surface until it no longer sticks, then place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rest for about an hour.
Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out circles; let them rest on a baking sheet for another 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C) and fry the dough circles until golden brown on both sides.
Drain on paper towels and coat in white sugar, then fill each donut with strawberry jam using a pastry bag or syringe.
For variations, consider using different types of jam or substituting ingredients like eggs with applesauce for a vegan option. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze unfilled donuts for 3 months. To retain freshness, fill the donuts with jam just before serving. Remember, a warm oven is ideal for letting the dough rise!
