- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon espresso powder optional
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 cups chocolate frosting
- 1 1/2 cups M&M candies
Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare two 9-inch cake pans.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and espresso powder.
Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients; mix with an electric mixer until smooth.
Slowly add boiling water to the batter, stirring gently until well combined.
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
