Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until smooth.
  • In another bowl, combine the cooled espresso, melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until mixed.
  • Slowly fold in the dry ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, until you achieve a silky batter.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, sprinkle chocolate chips on top if using, and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool for 15 minutes on a wire rack.
