Equipment

  • Large mixing bowls
  • Rolling pin
  • Sharp knife or dental floss for slicing
  • 9x9-inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper optional, for easy cleanup

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup softened butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup minced fresh strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¼ cup melted butter for brushing
  • ½ cup whipped cream optional, for drizzling

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix the yeast, warm milk, and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and softened butter. Add the foamy yeast mixture, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for an hour.
  • In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the dough into a 12x8-inch rectangle. Spread cream cheese filling evenly, leaving a border. Sprinkle minced strawberries and sugar on top.
  • Roll the dough from the long side to create a tight log. Cut the log into 8 slices and arrange in a greased 9x9-inch baking pan.
  • Brush tops with melted butter. Let rest for 20 minutes, then bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Drizzle with whipped cream or glaze before serving warm.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, swap the butter for coconut oil and use vegan cream cheese. If using frozen strawberries, thaw and drain them well before adding to the filling. Chill the assembled rolls in the fridge for 15 minutes before baking to help them hold their shape. Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or refrigerate. They can be frozen for up to three months—just wrap each roll in plastic wrap and place in a freezer-safe bag.
