Equipment

  • Medium-sized saucepan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Wooden spoon
  • Serving glasses

Ingredients

  • 500 ml milk
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 unit egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • to taste Lemon peel

Instructions

  • Heat half of the milk with lemon peel and vanilla over low heat, being careful not to boil.
  • Dissolve the flour in the remaining milk and set aside.
  • Once the milk is infused, combine the milk-flour mixture into the egg yolks that have been beaten with sugar.
  • Let the mixture sit for five minutes, then strain through a sieve.
  • Pour back into the pot, add hot milk (without lemon peel), and butter, cooking over low heat while stirring.
  • Remove from heat when the custard thickens and let it cool completely.
  • Assemble the dessert by crushing vanilla cookies in the bottom of serving glasses.
  • Add a layer of cooled custard, followed by a layer of chopped strawberries, and repeat.
  • Top with Chantilly cream and whole strawberries for decoration.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, substitute almond or oat milk. You can switch strawberries with seasonal fruits like mangoes or raspberries. To give extra flavor, toast the vanilla cookies before crushing. Store any leftovers covered in the fridge; they are best consumed within two days. If preparing in advance, assemble without the Chantilly cream and strawberries to keep them fresh until serving.
