Ingredients

  • 1 box (18.25 oz) brownie mix
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (e.g., Kahlua)
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce
  • to taste Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the brownie mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water until the batter is smooth.
  • Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the cooled espresso and coffee liqueur, then pour half over the brownie batter.
  • Blend mascarpone cheese and powdered sugar until smooth, then spread over the espresso layer.
  • Drizzle caramel sauce over the mascarpone layer, then pour the remaining brownie batter on top.
  • Pour the rest of the espresso mixture on top and swirl gently to create a marbled effect.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
  • Let the brownies cool completely before slicing and dusting with cocoa powder.

Notes

Feel free to substitute espresso with strong black coffee if necessary. You can also replace the coffee liqueur with vanilla extract for a non-alcoholic option. To enhance the flavor, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the caramel drizzle before baking. Store brownies in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature or refrigerate to maintain freshness. For longer storage, freeze individually wrapped brownies, and thaw at room temperature as needed.
