Ingredients

  • 1 box German Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 1 package toffee bits (11 oz)
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups chopped pecans
  • 1 container chocolate frosting

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, mix the German chocolate cake mix, whole milk, eggs, and canola oil with a hand mixer until smooth.
  • Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 15 minutes.
  • In a saucepan, combine toffee bits, melted butter, and evaporated milk over medium heat to make caramel topping.
  • Once the base layer is baked, pour the warm caramel topping evenly over it and sprinkle with 3/4 cup chocolate chips and 1 cup chopped pecans.
  • Dollop the remaining cake batter on top and spread it gently to cover the filling.
  • Bake the cake again for 20 minutes until a toothpick comes out mostly clean and let it cool for 2 hours.
  • Once cooled, frost the top with chocolate frosting and sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips and chopped pecans.

Notes

For an extra special touch, drizzle caramel sauce on top of the frosting.
