Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer or whisk
  • Spatula for frosting
  • Vintage heart cake pan
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • q.s. cream cheese frosting for decorating
  • optional flavorings like almond, lemon, or red velvet
  • optional food colorings for pastel shades

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven and grease a vintage heart cake pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, filling it two-thirds full to prevent overflow.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted comes out clean; let it cool completely.
  • Once cooled, decorate with cream cheese frosting, adding any desired decorative touches such as piped flowers or lace patterns.
  • If desired, create layers by slicing the cake and adding fillings between layers.

Notes

Feel free to substitute flavors based on your preference; almond and lemon are great options for a twist. Experiment with different fillings like raspberry jam or chocolate ganache between layers for a surprise treat. For a vintage look, use pastel colors and delicate piping techniques; if you're new to piping, there are tutorials available online to help you get started. Always allow the cake to cool completely before decorating to avoid melting the frosting.
