Ingredients

  • 1⅓ cups flour
  • cups sugar
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup whiskey
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the eggs, milk, oil, vanilla, and whiskey to the dry ingredients and stir until smooth.
  • Pour in the boiling water and mix until well incorporated.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for about 20 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter for the chocolate sauce and add sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and whiskey, stirring until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, cream butter until light and fluffy for the icing, then gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa, mixing until smooth.
  • Add whiskey and adjust icing consistency with milk if necessary.
  • Once the cake is completely cool, frost it with icing and drizzle with the chocolate sauce.
