- 50 ml olive oil
- 10 g sugar
- 300 ml lukewarm water
- 10 g active dry yeast
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 10 g salt
In a small bowl, mix the lukewarm water and yeast, then let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar.
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil; mix until a rough dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a clean, oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth; let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
Punch down the risen dough, divide it into small equal portions, and shape each into a smooth ball.
Place the shaped rolls on a lined baking tray, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F) and bake the rolls for about 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
You can substitute all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier version. If you're out of sugar, honey can be used instead; just adjust the liquid slightly. For added flavor, consider mixing in herbs or spices as desired. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
